Downsizing - or maybe not.... R/C Galore!

Ok, so first In my defense this started as me just watching a lot on eBay. I then thought, well even if it is for some spare parts it may be worth it. I put in an offer, then a counter, and so on. The seller contacted me and said they have tons of stuff as they are moving on from Thomas. After messaging them back and forth I scored the following lot(s). I was going to get some more but had to stop. This will take me some time to get going as all need some help. And for instances there are no Percy remotes, only 1 Hiro, etc.. I will be on the hunt for some of those now.

My plan for these will be to fix/repair/and Sell. If anyone needs a spare part or something, let me know and we can work something out.

BTW: there are the 4 Steam Along Thomas engines (2 are said to be working) and in the baggie is a Rocky all in pieces..

Side topic for this. I think I have asked before or maybe saw a thread about it. For R/C Molly was she released in 2006 and 2099? The reason I ask is all of the r/c Molly's I have had were 2009 but I have a 2006 Molly remote as well. Same with James, well the opposite actually. I have always had the 2006 version but I have a 1009 remote in this lot.

Oh and after all these years of never getting an R/C victor I get one after I decide to sell.. Cool

The r/c molly I have that I talked about its restoration a bit in a previous thread, the remote is dated 2006 and the train is 2009. I think the design of the remotes was made in 2006 and as they made new trains they justed dated them when they were created. I think this mainly because my James and Thomas remotes are 2006 but the James and Thomas trains are 2007.

I'm very interested in steam along parts, a James remote (logic board burned out), and perhaps one or 2 of the battery cars from the r/c trains.

Yeah there are two distinct model/years for the remotes it seems. The 2006 has a polished, smooth, shiney surface where as the 2009 has a sort of matte rough finish.

I have not gone though any of them yet to test but would like to see what I can get going if possible. I too had a couple thought with using the battery car maybe to power some LED's or maybe give a motor some boost. Big Grin

It may be repairable if you want to include it with the others. Smile

I have a couple of the red (grey roof) battery box cars for exactly what you said. I don't remember though, are these 3 battery units wired in series or parallel?

Good question Super. I am not sure on that, I will need to get one taken apart to have a look. I know they have 3 wires coming from them (red, black, orange).

Just took a look and it may be in series if looking at the way the battery placement is (facing in opposite direction) so I assume they output 4.5volt. One day, I am going to pick up a really cheap voltmeter although I say this to myself every time I customize some wiring. Wonder if they have that sort of thing at Harbor Freight?

Yeah they do have them there. Actually if you are on their mailing list they send coupons all the time to get them for free. I have had a few of them, but the probe(s) seem to fall off or have on the two I have had recently, but they were free so not a big deal. I have throught of getting a really nice one as it seems like it would be a good investment. And I learned my lesson with the soldering irons, as I had probably 10 over a short span from HF and they all ended up ruined. The tips would basically disintegrate.. I purchased a bit more expensive one from Lowes and it is still running perfect on the same tip.

Come to think of it, I did purchase a Multimeter about a year or so ago but I ended up returning it because I was confused about all the dial settings and just didn't seem worth the time & trouble of studying how to use it. Just too many dials, switches and settings. All I wanted is a simple machine that just tells the volts, nothing fancy, but it doesn't seem like anyone makes one that is for dummies. They say its easy but if it doesn't just work with an on/off switch then it may not be right for me.
