Talking Engine Couplings?

8 Replies, 9988 Views

Hi Guys,

I don't know if anyone out there can help, but I just obtained in an auction a talking Percy, price was quite reasonable, but when it's arrived I found it has a broken coupling which wasn't mentioned. It could have happened in transit I suppose, but I've naturally gone back to the seller anyway as it wasn't mentioned in the listing. But frankly I'd rather fix it than return it as I'm sure I'd be unlikely to get another in generally good condition for the price I paid.

Anyway as you probably know the coupling isn't the standard type otherwise it would be no issue. But I don't have any spare ones of this type, does anyone know where I could get one or happen to have one in a spares box I could purchase off you?

Here's a pic showing the broken coupling;

If I were you, I'd suggest trying to superglue the two joints as a temporary fix until you can get a proper one.

ive dealt with this seller once before, and have used this particular couplers twice to make repairs. while they arent the same as the original, they will work with what you have there. he also makes black standard replacements. i must buy some more from him actually... used most what i bought up already.

depending on what screws are underneath and whether you have one or not, this pack contains a triangle drive bit, plus the tender engine coupling.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions guys, I've had a message from the train seller and he is going to see if he has any spares so I may be able to get one that route.

However I'll also check out that seller Sun, it would be handy to have some spares anyway for all sorts of reasons.

I had already considered cannibalism, but unfortunately all the trains I have with the appropriate couplings are currently working or repaired by me lol!

Oh, and I have got a triangle bit already, needed it for another repair job Smile

I've successfully glued couplings with two part epoxy. We have a Gordon that came to us with a broken coupling. This coupling was glued about 3-4 years ago. It's been played with with no concern of being nice to the coupling. This epoxy works! Not just any epoxy, this stuff!

Here's the patient.

I've saved quite a few toys with this epoxy!
Thanks for the tip I'll have to track some down... Smile

My Talk N Action Magic Rail Percy is the same way and I superglued it and it's still holding well, I am just careful when handling him. Mine had snapped exactly where yours had, I guess from the weight of the very heavy trailing car.
