Wow...I am not sure I have seen a Worm (spiral) Gear split before. I have had it where once replacing some gears, when put back together and tried, the new gears were strong enough to actually split any remaining gears that were okay before. You say you replaced 3...if you open it up again, check that 4th one again.
Hi super
So yes replacing the 3 white gears fixed enough of the problem that I didn't have to tackle the grey one. It is, in fact 10T gear with 2A hole. And I had the replacements thankfully as well as spiral gears but didn't get to/need to replace it to function.
Regarding your advise on fixing the grey gear, that's almost exactly what I would've done minus the glue as your are correct with a) superglue not having the strength to hold a cracked gear properly and b) the potential of extra goop drying up between the gear and causing more problems
As far as why, I live in New York so your guess is as good as mine lol. I open nearly all my toys and discard the boxes because I don't want to feel like I'm "collecting" items and not playing with them. So with that said, toys that still have their boxes I kept in a separate storage so I checked those few boxes and everything else seems ok.
As for grease I use Super lube. (For those late night.... Fixes)
Also yes, you are correct and I plan on replacing the rest of the gears if I ever have trouble come up again.
