Nissan TW-06 slight variant

Does anyone happen to know why one has the old switch mechanism? Did it come in a set before the individual TW cars?

Very good question Mitz.....I don't know for sure but maybe wager a guess?

The one with the white switch may be from the individual release and the one with the black switch the large set both of which are shown in Chrisjos great research Thread about the Tomica World (TW) motorized vehicles HERE

There also may be a chance that since the TW-06 was released in other colors that your chassis might have been swapped out with one of a different color whether on purpose or by mistake. I have had several different variations before but only have the red one like yours now with the white switch. I believe this vehicle was also released in Japan under the Tomy brand but those chassis would not be labeled with a TW.

Anyone have an idea?
I've thoroughly enjoyed Chrisjo's thread on the topic of Tomica World Cars (that reminds me, I should leave a like). If anybody would know the reason, it would be Chrisjo. You're right though regarding the white switch, it did come from an individually sold package. But the other one I've procured incidentally with a Tomica Set 7248 City Set so I don't know it's origin.

Summary of power switch variation in my Tomica World motorised vehicle collection:

The white, red and yellow switch knobs are rectangular. The black switch knobs are square.  Vehicles that were only ever available in one set can have either, for example TW-02 and TW-03.

I feel that the ones with the CE mark (Conformité Européene - European safety certification) may have been the last to be produced, though with no real justification since the regulations had been in force since 1993, well before Tomica World was created. I'd need to look into this some more.

A quick look at the B/O Tomica and Motor Tomica ranges suggests that both rectangular/coloured and square/black switches are represented there too, so I'm not going to speculate further at the moment.

I can't tell what switches my BNIB bubble-pack ones have without unpacking them, and that isn't going to happen.

As a shocking footnote, this exercise has revealed that I don't have TW-17 (Subaru Legacy) Station Wagon. I thought I had one, but it turns out to be the +/- identical Motor Tomica A-01 version.

Umm... glad I could help you find that out about the missing TW?😅 Geez Chrisjo you have quite the collection. But seriously thanks for the information, it seems the answer isn't a simple one but what I DID take away from this is that it was a common occurrence with the vehicles.
