That XTool M1 is certainly awesome. Lots of reviews on youtube, for example:

So it can only use flat type materials. You can see a lot of Etsy makers using a Laser machine like this to etch signs on wood, plastic, poly and glass so I suppose if you had a side business you could recoup a lot of the high price for the unit. Hmmm...wonder when they will make a 3D laser cutting/etching machine? 😁 Thanks for the Link Dr Chris
Great toy that's for sure, but its not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Give it a year or two and I reckon we'll see an explosion in these like we did in 3D printers in recent years, that should help make them more affordable
I have to admit I'd love one, but not at the moment, I'll wait for the cheaper and better next generation I think

Actually maybe it will be next year, although its not fully assembled and doesn't come with a nice one piece casing etc... there are cheaper options already like the XTool D1 which I just found on Amazon(UK) for £399 with a 25% off voucher as well, so £300 effectively. A much more palatable price although its more 'heath robinson' than the M1

It also looks like it would be neat to make building parts that snap together either in wood or poly-carbonate where shingles or siding could be etched right on the snap together parts.
Definitely, just think you could etch bricks, rivets or whatever you wanted really...
