Especially if I'm getting the Plarail car carrier with the US styled locomotive, since Western style freight containers would be a better match than Japanese for the loco

Next job is to search for some appropriate OO/HO scale 20' container decals.

 I did manage to find and buy some excellent-looking waterslide decals / transfers. I just haven't quite got around to re-painting the wagons in the appropriate colours and applying them yet, two years later.
