Looks like they also imported Tomy's acoustic record playing train, but I don't immediately see anything from them like your train... I'll have another look
I have a website where I have been writing about and photographing many of the sets and pieces that I find interesting.
Looks like Palitoy was bought out by General Mills in the US in 1968. Been trying to look for vintage UK toys from the 70's and 80's. By 'Super Market' is that like a grocery store or department store?
Found this shot of a dismantled merry go zoo elephant online. The short top of the body looks like it could be the same, but on a shorter and different chassis.
The top certainly looks very similar, although mine seems to have a feet moulding, unless thats on the chassis part.

Theres also the possibility mine could have been some sort of knock off copy?
