Another excellent find Dr Chris. Plarail Branded all in English. I have this Monorail but didn't connect the dots to realize that this one fits the bill exactly. Having so much wording on a Plarail item is not normal let alone that All of it is in English. I tried to research 'Plarail Resort' to see if this was a real place with no luck. There is not a Disney Logo on it and I couldn't locate info on if it was transportation to Tokyo Disneyland as I don't think they have any hanging Monorails in the park..
Does anyone know if this was modeled after a real Japan Monorail or is it completely fictitious?
Thanks Leyland. It is looking more like its the Tomy Branded items that are fewer than the Japanese Plarail which looks like the majority are the give aways at the Plarail Expos over the years.
I did have a Tomy Express train like that once, isn't that a UK Tomica World release? I still find it curious that there has never been a Tomy Logo in Japanese. Curiously, the large island outline is an exact match for Hawaii, but the two smaller islands to the south-east don't exist there. I'd appreciate any additional info about this item. When was it released? Was it a special and/or event item? And was 'Plarail Connect Town' a thing, or just a random assortment of words pasted onto this monorail (and the yellow 'construction' one with the dozer blade on the front - which surely has to be fictional?)
Now I don't remember if we have discussed these Special Monorails in more detail in the past as the 3 Hanging Monorails released of these are my favorite. Now I am more curious as I don't think I looked into the 'Plarail Connect Town' clue before.
The 3 Monorails released in this line are the Blue one mentioned, the Red Emergency Monorail and the Yellow Construction Monorail all have 2001 on the sticker and 2001 Tomy on the undercarriage. Also curious that on the Plarail Connect Town sticker there are 3 octagon dots...red/blue and yellow. My first thoughts were that these may have been a Plarail Club Exclusive but checking Ripleys fantastic Plarail Catalog collection in the Collection Forum LINK, I see that the 3 first appeared in the 2002-2003 General Retail Release Catalog. Can anyone translate any additional information from the catalog page? |
