The rice idea is an interesting one Nigels.
As I said it worked for me, the phone unfortunately popped out of my trouser pocket and tried to make an escape down the goldfish crematorium (aka toilet), naturally it got wet and unfortantely it was not my Sony one which is waterproofed.  So what to do?  I remembered reading about putting phones that had been dropped in water in rice so thought what the hell, it can't get any worse?  So boxed it up and left it in the cupboard for a week or so, got it out, put the battery etc... back in and lo-behold it powered up fine.  Prior to this it would power on, but the vibration would turn on immediately then never turn off lol
