Train Wraps

Watch this YouTuber create a couple of neat train wraps, especially a very neat McDonalds one. Not sure if they are vinyl. Would be neat to create a very special or personal train.

And would be a great way to rejuvenate locos with trashed stickers. I see "Inkjet Film Labels (White) [Stretch Type]" at about 6:30 in the second video.  Investigating now......

Thanks Chris for checking this out. Really don't understand much as it seems like its just printing on regular sticker paper and applying a clear cover sheet to it. At least thats all I can figure out without knowing what they are saying or what the words are.

That is really cool, design in Adobe (or editor of your choice) onto a template created from a photo of the train, then printed on an inkjet (or colour laser) onto a sheet sticker. So simple I'm amazed nobody has done it before, now where did I store those pictures for the Advance Nankai Rap:it I wanted to use to create an Advance Star Wars wrapped train?!?

I have actually made many train associated stickers just using an Inkjet Printer and self stick Labels from like from Avery but they wouldn't wear to good and aren't waterproof.. What drew me to these was the word "Stretch" where I assumed they would have to be vinyl in some way. I can't understand how they would be stretchable with a clear sheet over paper so I am missing something.

Printable white vinyl seems to be available now, for example I just typed 'Inkjet White Vinyl' into the Ebay search box.

It looks like the Inkjet Vinyl is plague by the same drawbacks of clear Inkjet labels and the clear Inkjet Waterslide Decal papers. Colors will not appear very good unless you use the white papers or now vinyls. Problem with the white papers and vinyls for our purposes is that in order to have good colors you have a white background which, to me, won't look good unless sticking to a white background. I may want to try a couple sheets though just to see.

Maybe they can be stretched over 'bumps' or whatever if you apply a little heat if they are vinyl

Well the type of paper used in the videos says "stretch type" on it, and the picture on the pack shows it wrapped around a very curvey surface, i.e. the top of a mouse. Heat probably not necessary if you're using the right material. It's finding it in UK that's slowing me down a bit.

In the video it showed a printed piece of white paper being covered with a sheet of clear paper, it seemed strange to me that by applying those 2 sheets together they would not stretch at the same rate without separating. Also, the products video doesn't show the stretching capabilities which I found strange as apparently (supposedly) thats one of its selling points. Sorry, its my uneducated engineering mind at work here.

As you say Chrisjo, there seems to be other manufacturers of this type of product (wonder who has the best) and I might try some just to see or would like to hear from anyone else that is looking into these to see what they think. Wish they sold them in, smaller packs cheaper just to try.
