matchbox railways battery operated

Most of the match box loco's listed are actually diecast models from the main match box line and are unpowered. They are probably about the same scale, but wouldn't be too much use to someone wanting a motorised layout Smile

I thought maybe the rolling stock might work.
they might, it would depend on the wheel base and the weight. the engines dont appear to be very strong, and blairs struggle just with one plastic wagon. i think a diecast would stop them dead. thanks, though. i will be hunting ebay for reasonable priced listings, too.

What gauge is the track on these Matchbox sets Sun? It looks likely to be around HO/00 but its always difficult to judge scales without a reference... Smile

n would be closest, but i think the rails are closer together. will measure when the set arrives in a few days. i think they might only be a cm or 2 apart.

Wow now that is small, just goes to show from the photo's I'd assumed it was about HO/00 as it looked like that sort of size. Bang goes the idea of suggesting one of the 3rd party HO'ish sets to provide a better loco to run on the set. Although I have seen the odd N'ish gauge battery set, when you can let me have the size I'll compare that with N and see if its viable to run an N gauge battery loco on it Smile

they are 1cm apart. blairs set arrived today, and the blue engine has broken flanges on the rear wheels, just like his one. thankfully, the chassis seem to be compatible, and the diesel looks ok.

this shows how it goes together. each section has a short post and receiving hole, and then clips on the outside to ensure it stays together.

Thanks for that insight Sun, well I'll look out some N gauge stuff and see what the wheelbase is on those, it may not be so different and be a viable alternative Smile
