Is this really new in box??

Hi guys. I just wanted to get your guys' opinion if this motor road and rail James looks new in box.

I am looking into buying it for the great price and just rarity as well. If it is Bnib then I will certainly buy it (if someone doesn't beat me to it) but something is just clicking in my head that it is not Bnib. Just the way James looks in his box and I think I can see some tape at the top of the box and aren't the trains supposed to be wrapped up in plastic bags? Beacause all my plarail trains that are new are all wrapped up in plastic and I don't see the instruction manual at the front of the box under James. You could use this one as a reference because I am almost certain that this is Bnib but I'm not interested at that price. Could someone give me an idea if this is really Bnib?

I think there was a thread not too long ago about BNIB vs MIB or something basically brand new in box vs mint in box. I am with you that Brand new in box should be sealed and not opened, etc. but this one does seem like maybe it was removed and put back in the box. And while the train may be new in that it was not used and it is with the box, so the seller considers BNIB.

Yeah, either way I think $30 for a MIB James is very good and with the possibility of being BNIB

I am not perfectly sure but it seems to me that the new trains in plastic sleeves is more modern than what they may have come like in the older, vintage sets. I vaguely remember having opened boxes that didn't have a plastic sleeve before but I am sure some of our experts would know for sure.

The early Tomy exports for global sale came only taped on the box...
Technically, if something is listed as "new", Nib, or Bnib, the seal of tape cannot be broken. If a seller lists it as anything with an "N"(new) in the title, then it cannot have ever been opened...if it turns out to not be new PayPal/ eBay will guarantee your purchase and force the seller to issue you a return/ refund, so if it's listed as new you have no worries about taking a chance.

Yes, I still have (I think.) every MRAR character that was released in box. I can confirm Mr Ucwepn's thoughts and can tell you that that James does indeed look BNIB.
