Wonder Why Chuggington?

I wonder why the Chuggington engines are so noisy compared to other similar Plarail trains. Are they all like this? They are both using the same motor design right? I have not had any apart and only have had a handful pass through my hands but they have all been loud exactly like the one in Ucwepn"s video below at the 3:19 mark. Wonder why, has anyone had one apart? The next time I have a used one I am going to see whats inside but by the looks of what I have seen they look like Shinkansen chassis from the outside.

In their defense...their theme song does include "Clackety Clack!"

I know this may be a stupid question considering who I am asking it to but....Do you have all the Plarail Cuggington trains and all the Plarail Chuggington sets A.C.?

Good to know I'm not the only person here with that song stuck in my head!

Anyway, this makes me wonder if Takara Tomy contracted with a new factory to handle the Chuggington production and the quality control was not quite up to standard.

Chuggington is kind of a source of ambivalence here at Chez OTR. The kids like the show well enough but the toys don't appeal to them like Thomas stuff does. So far, we haven't gotten any Plarail items and die cast items really don't get played with. Are we missing out on something here?

An alternate theory is that the noise level was an unavoidable design consequence of having a relatively powerful motor and driveline running on a double-A battery. They seem to run really well, so that shoots holes in my previous theory about manufacturing QC.

I couldn't respond to that as the only ones I have had just passed through my hands on their way to Ebay. Maybe AC or someone else can give us a better perspective.

I have all the engine set only. I did not buy the ones that came with tracks.

I do recall that some where quiet. I'll try them out again and report back. No promises! Lego first LOL

Thats all??? I love that picture and with Evan in it gives one the perspective on how massive it is. Did you re stock the storage bins so they all match? Looks like its time to peel off all those Sterlite stickers off. They do come off easily. You have enough stuff there to start a Plarail Party Business like Track Party UK or at least have some super parties for Evan and his friends. And you could give each one of his friends an F-Unit for coming as you have so freakin many of them

I buy 10 at a time.

I haven't really tried peeling the stickers yet.
But I do need to start labeling them!

I have got into the habit of buying way more then I need of the same Storage bins and store the unused ones away. I got tired of having a nice organized set of Storage Boxes and when I go to buy more matching ones they have discontinued that model and have something different. I think they do this on purpose knowing that those of up that have Storage Box OCD can replace all the ones they had just to get a neat and organized matching set. Which reminds me...I have to get another super sized tub for the Future World Collection as I have filled the one that I thought would hold everything I would ever buy.

The Sterlite stickers are one of the easiest to remove as I think there is some vinyl in them. Its not like the old days of with the cheapo storage boxes that used paper stickers with glue that always ripped and were had to get off. One of the nice things about using clear boxes is that they don't need labels but they are helpful and organized. Where you thinking of using like the Avery Labels and printing them out? I like the removable kind that way its easy to change the label if you add to or change the contents. Would like to see a picture like this one once you get all the labels on as that would look great.

I am sending that photo to my wife right now! Man, THAT is a collection!
