Jauce - Retention?

Hi there I got something from Jauce and its said its been shipped and now in my post office in retention since 27/1/17, the item was shipped on 18/1/17. Do I have to pick it up or how long will it be in retention, can anyone please help?

I am not sure on the time frame hold onto it but if it is at your local post office you likely need to just go and sign for it. Sometimes even if I am home the post man doesn't leave the package and I have to go in, sign for it, then it is all good.

Hi Super, I am in UK, I have not received any notice about having to pick it up from the post office, so do I ask them and then just give them the Japanese tracking number I have using EMS?

I can only speak of the USA but if I were you I would get to your Post Office at the soonest you can before they ship it back. First go online to the Royal Mail Web site and type in that Japan tracking number. It should show up once the package is in the UK at least it does here. Then print that out and take it with you. If its like here, you have to be home and sign for the package and if no one is home to sign then they leave a small slip that says to pick it up at the Post Office. The UK may be the same but get there quickly before they send it back. For packages from Japan you might want to get in the habit of checking Royal Mail daily until that Japan number shows up. Then you should know when they may deliver or at least if they tried to deliver. They also may be holding it because there are customs fees due. Maybe, if they left a slip it was in with your other mail and got tossed with the junk. Its been there a long time so good luck. Anyone from the UK with experience in this?

Ok, what happens is stuff comes in from Jauce, if it's valued at more than £17.99 it will get stopped in customs (Coventry usually lol). It can take anything up to a week to get through there. Once they decide how much you'll have to pay in import duties it will go to 'Retention' at the local office and you will be sent a bill for the import duties and handling charges. Once you pay that online at parcelforce.com they will then release it for delivery.

If you don't get the notice asking for payment I would suggest going to the parcelforce.com site and use the email 'contact us' to query the package and delivery telling them it is in retention and they will probably come back to you with the payment reference number and amount you owe.

Then you can pay it, put some salv on your sore bottom, wait for your package, then post in the "Show us what you bought" forum

No not at all, usually once it hits retention (I use the Japan post tracking to find this out) I normally get the notification for payment within about 3-5 days. There was once I didn't get one so after the 5 days I contacted ParcelForce about it and they gave me the details, I paid, got my package and the notice turned up the day after the parcel lol!! So in that case was about 10 days I think. They are usually white almost card type notes with tear strips on the sides and the top edge (be careful or you may tear the contents). about the size of a normal 'business' type envelope (imagine A4 folded twice top to bottom - so about a 1/3rd the size of a sheet of A4) with a bright red/blue "ParcelForce" logo on it.

Personally I would chase it up because if you don't pay within a certain period they may return or dispose of the package - I mean 30 or 60 days (haven't checked) but its not indefinite...

When you contact them give them as much detail as possible, date it hit customs, date it went to retention, Japan Post reference etc... You can get all this from the Japan Post tracking site...

I should add if it cleared customs and there was no charge it would simply have been delivered, it would never have gone into 'Retention' so there will be a charge of some sort depending on the value of the package as declared by Jauce...
