"Probably one of the most famous of all VR publicity photos was that of a B, "flattie" T and an R class battling Warrenheip Bank with a Geelong bound wheatie, comprising an all red GY consist."
In the 1960's, I will try and find out more about this photo as its fascinating to me hehe.
some comments from the facebook post on the VR historic group:
"The photo in question is in fact dated 1965 wheat season."
"The R is hauling its 420 ton up the bank and after Warrenheip where the B and T will be taken off, is only there as a mobile compressor. Its performance as a freight hauler is then irrelevant."
"Just another day for the Ballarat bank engines. This practice would continue for decades well after steam headed for that big turntable in the sky. Imagine standing there and listening to that. There is a track on the Night Shift LP of B68 and a steam loco on the rear of a goods and it's magic to listen to."
"SteamRail, can you please recreate this? Let the purist of blue & gold enthusiasts know when & let us hear the most brilliant mash up of VR sounds together in one as they struggle up the grade. Have an ambulance handy for CPR, & bring plenty of tissues. I don't need to ride it, just load it exactly the same & place us at this spot. I don't care how much tickets are, just let me know when please. : )"
