Duracell is pretty bad too.

I can only assume a Japanese brand. Unfortunately these are notorious for having corrosion damage on the terminals, likely due to these batteries being under the cover of the rear tender/trailing car.

I never had any idea concealing the batteries could've caused corrosion. That was nice to know.

Absolutely this is the case with me too, but if i'm gonna store them for long periods of time, i put aluminum foil in between the battery and both terminals, so if corrosion were to occur, it would go to the foil, rather than the terminal. Like a barrier almost. Maybe one of these days i should put up a tutorial on how to fix the corrosion on the terminals.

Why even take the chance? Because of stories I have heard from our members here, I removed all the batteries from all our units and only install batteries in the trains that run on the layout at the time. When I did go to remove them all I did catch a couple that were in the early stages of leakage, just in the nick of time.
