We have to wait a week and a half to see what you got... ...Can't wait.
An *assumingly* expensive haul!

I'll post pics when i get to open them all up on November 27! I feel your pain.. the fees and shipping is crazy for this stuff. I think we need a BOT shipping service, or maybe we could get a BPT discount... That would be awesome..
BOT? What does that mean?

I AM NOT DEAD. Just inactive.
Well, I couldn't help myself, and opened up everything today. I'll post pics of everything later. A bit p i s s e d, the majority of the trains don't work, and have zero cash to ship out anything. Does anybody have any tutorials on how to fix the Talk N Action engines? Those have weird problems. Gordon will (barely) work, no sound. Thomas talks and sings, but his wheels barely move (solved, the white axel is loose). Henry does barely anything and doesn't talk. James works great with a little help of a back engine. Diesel 10 frankly enough worked the best, and apparently had the worst corrosion of battery I have seen in my life.
That was the worst of it, yet still worked. Any help on any DiY repair with any Tomy and the TNA engines would be appreciated!
Ripley802 is the zen master of T'nA engines!! He knows them inside and out, and has repaired I couple of mine in the past...I am sure he will be happy to help you out!!
Play nice & have fun!!

Muddy, far too kind.. "Xen Master" I do like the sound of that though.
@starswitcher07 Yes, Muddy is correct, I know these pretty much in and out and have not found an issue I could not fix, "knocks on wood..." These can be very finicky to fix and repair and even once they are fixed they can be somewhat delicate with the exposed wires and fragile middle coupling. Without going through them and having a look it would be very tough to tell exactly what is wrong with each one, it could be just a bad fuse (there is one between the battery in the tender/trailing car of each of them), to a blown speaker for the ones with no sound ( I was able to find a replacement at one point, may have to hunt down a listing if this is needed), to a bad component on the circuit chip. As for replacement parts, they can be hard to find. I have some things from repairs I have done in the past, but the big items I cannot find easily are the battery terminals and then the middle connector. For the connector though I am in talks with a person in Texas that is trying to replicate them, as I have sent a few connectors to them in pieces to try and re-make. I cannot recall if you are in the US, if so, or even if not, send me a PM if you are interested, I would be more than happy to take a look at them for you. In general I would do the following: - Start with the easiest one to fix (hard to tell here, but it may be Percy with the gear issue). This will boost confidence and help you move ahead with the other repairs. - if you are comfortable with it, disassemble the rear tender/trailing car and look for corosion on the terminals underneath, blown fuse, or other wire issues. - test with a spare battery pack that has some clips on it ( I use an old 2 x AA battery back with alligator clips on it) but connect to the two wires coming from the engine. Those are a few steps, but as you have more questions, let me know. The circuit issues, and if you have to get to the point to replace anything in the actual activation mechanism, that can be a pain too. Hope this is somewhat helpful.
What kind of battery did that use to be? Was it a generic? Thats some extreme damage.

Unfortunately these are notorious for having corrosion damage on the terminals, likely due to these batteries being under the cover of the rear tender/trailing car. Each train takes the 3 batteries so I think when people stored them they would just see the one and remove it. What is very odd, you can litterly not find replacement terminals for these. I have looked everywhere.. |
