Removing Tomy Gordon (or any engine like) Smokebox

7 Replies, 8845 Views

I've got these two old Tomy Gordons, and the face of one is going to an acquaintance. I thought I could bring the smokebox of the other Gordon onto the better-condition boiler/body and have a whole Tomy Gordon again, but there doesn't seem to be a screw or anything obvious holding it in place to make it easy to remove.

I've tried just tugging on it, and I'm half tempted to go get a knife and put that to it, but perhaps you all have another idea?
Any help, once again, is appreciated.
Do you have a picture? Some of them have plastic pegs that go through holes then are sort of melted flat on the other side. Some are glued on I believe as well. And of course some have screws.

I agree, a picture should help us see what you have. We assume you have them apart.
I know how to do this take a flat head screw driver find a crack in the smoke box and pry it off it worked for me

It seems like Thenewduckthegwrengine's idea worked best, though figuring it out happened by complete accident. Smokebox just snapped off nice and clean.

I'll post a photo of the Gordon in question shortly. I would like to remove the face, and it does seem to have those little pegs, but there's now a piece of blue plastic blocking the upper half. Watch this space!

Promised I'd share the face, sorry for the delay.

I guess got the smokebox off, now for the face, if I wanted to.

1995 Gordon face has these two little pegs in back, but since the smokebox snapped off the boiler, there's a chunk of blue plastic blocking the rest. What can I do about that?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I believe they put the face on then the pegs are somewhat heated to melt them a bit which secures it on. You could use a little larger drill bit to drill the part that is holding it. Or maybe use some flat wire cutters to nip that piece off. Of course doing this would mean you would likely need to super glue the face on if it would be used again.
