As some of you know the parcel fairy arrived last Friday, poor little guy was loaded down with what must be the biggest box yet.
I won't bore you all with the 'N gauge' stuff as I know there's little interest in it, but there were some nice PlaRail type items which may interest some of you. To start with as well as my Museum special there were a couple of other special editions which I'll start with; Firstly we have a 485 PlaRail shop exclusive; Then a new (well to me at least) C57-135; Then something I bought from an auction speculatively as they caught my eye, a couple of PlaRail type loco's manufactured by Sega. Based on the pics on the auction I thought they were more Takara size, but it turns out they are actually slightly larger than Tomy PlaRail, but and here is the nice thing, the SAME gauge as Tomy with very similar traction tyres so they should run nicely on blue tracks. I make no apology for the number of shots, but I thought you'd like to see most of the relevant features of the loco's. They take 2 x AA's, have lighting, the switch on the top rear is a push on/off, and there is an interesting little switch on the bottom which switches the loco from forward to reverse. This is the only possible issue which may cause a problem with blue tracks, but I'm sure that can be disconnected if I want. Most of the shots are of the 'Red Express' (485 I think), the last picture is of a gold chromed 500 shinkansen the other one I bought to test the water

Very cool. How similar are the couplings to Plarail as the variety looks good for special custom mods. Wonder how hard it would be to remove those lamps for use in another train? Does the long wheel base navigate the Tomy curves?
The couplings are similar enough to be interchangeable with Tomy rolling stock, hence the reason I took a shot of the couplings especially as I knew someone would ask.
I've had the lid off as I was interested, the lamps are easily removable, the arrangement is a Y shaped clear plastic piece, the twin end forms the lamps and the single end has an LED fitted into it, this is then wired into the motor unit. The question of the wheel base is the one question on my mind as it is substantially longer than Tomy, when I get a chance I'll try it out on a circle or something and let you know
