Track guide?

9 Replies, 9717 Views

Total newbie here!

Is there somewhere a track guide that lists the different radius curves, straight track, switches, etc.? I've tried several different search terms...

I'm interested in learning the tightest curves available that for example, the regular Plarail small steam engines (like in the Disney sets) might run on.

Cheers from Chicagoland!

Welcome Don

There may be a place where there is a list and I hope that a member here knows of a link. Are you looking for a radius smaller than the normal Plarail blue curve rail?

I have to post a link here in the public Forum of your Youtube Channel that shows off the awesome Disney layout you have for all to enjoy. Iy is truly remarkable. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy5JAfG...EWrxNMgiMQ

Yes! It looks like the u-turn piece is pretty tight. Did I see flexible sections that can be formed into tight turns?

Glad you enjoy my video!

Cheers,
Don
I think the U-Turn is about the tightest curves out there. I think the trains would have a hard time going around anything tighter. Here is a picture of the U-Turn compared to the normal curves and the Flex Track.

The X-crossing is tigher and often trains just run off in various directions when they get there.

Excellent! What is the approximate diameter of the u-turn?

Cheers,
Don
Don the diameter of the U-Turn is 12"

Plarnold is right about the X-Crossing. That is probably the tightest curve. In fact I actually modified one for a tricky part of the old layout but found that because I followed it up with another curve that long trains would be pulled off the short radius rail sometimes.

The flexible track can be quite bumpy. Although if flat it usually is not to bad. I have found a need though in a few elevated sections so it can get a little hairy.. Big Grin
There is a 90 degree curve section equivalent (I think) to the x-crossing's curvature. It was made in the 70's (and possibly later).
Ones molded in the usual Tomy blue seem to be hard to find.
Yellow or orange ones if you don't mind the color can be easily acquired on eBay as part of certain "Merry-Go" sets.

On this site you can scroll through a lot of track pieces that are made by Plarail. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/999/0/1
