I am much more qualified to be your financial adviser and I can honestly advise you to invest in the very rewarding hobby and the world of 3D printing.

To make m/m f/f tracks, I just cut them off with a hacksaw on my bench vice to the length I need then I cut the end of another piece and weld them together. I don't throw away any of the cut off pieces cause you can just weld them together to make a custom track segment, which works great for long span bridges if you don't have enough track risers. You can also recycle them and weld them to the bottom of a extra long segment to create a spine so the track wont sag.

If you don't have an actual plastic welding kit a full size soldering iron with the fatter tip installed just clamp the parts together and when the tip is hot enough to start melting the plastic make small circles and move in the direction of the weld, it takes a bit of practice but its basically free except for the cost of the iron and electricity. You just cant hold the iron in one spot to long otherwise you'll melt all the way through.
