angry thomas question

19 Replies, 19064 Views

so i finally get to relax a bit & enjoy friends, family, blue tracks and... oh yea, trains!
i was goin over some things when i came across some angry thomas sets i have obtained. what i didn't know is there were (at least) 2 separate releases of this set. 1 in 2001 and a second in 2003. not sure about any other releases. but are there any differences (besides the packaging) between the 2?

does anyone here have/ had this set? unopened? & opened it ? & still has it?

I would imagine that Muddy Poppins has them all.
well... i hope someone can help me here! cuz i have @ least 4 of these sets. and i think all of them r fakes. maybe tho w/ some help i can put together a complete set.
Sunhuntin may be able to help Smile
this is the kinda research i do. painstaking research. this 1 set will take me hours 2 decipher. yuk! i luv'em tho. if anyone wants to help me crack this code...lemme know. there's more here than meets the eye.
how come you think they are fakes? i dont know much about the set, even though ive got 2 boxed and at least one that was without the box.

i seem to recall there being two different sets with slight differences in the trucks between them, but that was just things i made mental notes of when looking at jauce. not being able to read the boxes, it could have been someone put different trucks in.

Yes there is definitely a variation of some sorts amongst them...
I have never opened one right out of the set, but I have many in various condition, from worn buffers and eyebrows, to pristine mint, and some have a very polished shiny hard plastic looking face, while others have a less shiny flat dull high density type of plastic look to them. Very noticeable when the two are held next to each other with direct lighting...I'll try to post some pics.

well i dont have too much time in the day left. but you obviously have 2 releases @ minimum! therefore, they get mixed & matched. i like to use the term "mish mashed".

there r several cues here. obviously the packaging. the box so 2 speak. the older model has the yellow goinig from left 2 right.
2nd: the interior packaging will have the linear & perforated lines.
with that said.
u have the breakdown crane... a tell tale givaway. fist gen cranes will almost always have a distorted hook. no need 2 look at the date @ the bottom.
2nd) the cargo cars..a much duller green.
but 1 of the more finer details... underneath the coach will be a sticker. a date or manufacture.. only w/ first gen. only if ur lucky.
thts wht i know. however there may b more.
have to cross reference all pieces.
but u said something about the truck? sc ruffy? perhaps?
i have a few tht r brown & a few tht r grey. which is first gen?

r there any dates? on the bottom of the engines? usually there r several dates due to "upgrades" so to speak. with wht u hve opened... any variation in yrs of manufacture?
the newest most recent only need apply

Here are a couple of good examples..I think I'd call them wet/dry faces..
Here are two of each...the wet faces on the left, and the dry faces on the right..

ive never analyzed a set to that extent before. checked my two sets, and neither coach has a sticker, but both were used, and one had the wrong thomas, so may have been removed by a child.

one set has the liner with perforations and slots for the wheels. the second, which was bought in korea, has more of an egg carton liner. everything really fits in nicely and doesnt come loose when being repacked.
the two sets have the same rolling stock, but in different locations.

plarail set can be seen here: http://sunsthomasandfriends.weebly.com/t...stock.html
