I happened to come across this fellow in the States that has been making these custom shelves in his shop. They have a custom profile that will hold different types of trains and wheel bases. I bought the first one and liked it so much I had to balance the wall out with another. Now we can have all our trains at ready and easy to spot when wanting to run something new.

They look great! :-)
I was thinking of making something just like that but decided against it. The profile of wood to hold the wheels would have been very time consuming (with handyman tools) and without it there is a risk of trains falling off.
Thanks Toys_Trains-Things
I believe he uses a power bench planer to make the profiles but I think the same results can be achieved with a table saw and dado blades. If you are in the States, I don't consider these very expensive and they are professionally packed. In fact I told him I can't see how he is making any money. The also ship Internationally http://www.classywoods.com/ http://www.ebay.com/sch/classywoods/m.ht...7675.l2562
Nice this guy is like 30 minutes away from me I am going to go pick a few of these up ,I can save on shipping and pay cash!
Thanks Super for the link!
Excellent Gerisplarail1 That is fantastic that you are so close. Mike, the owner, is a great guy. He is doing so good he is moving his whole shop into a bigger building.
We also picked up one of these Hot Wheels Matchbox Wooden Display Case. Its a great case if you have a lot of Matchbook/Hotwheels/Tomica type cars. It also has a clear polycarbonate sliding cover if you just want to display and keep the dust down. We aren't using the sliding clear cover right now as we like the idea of keeping our vehicles at hand and not laying all around.
WOW Super im jealous as hell
Excellent Ucwepn
Looking good. What is that about 4 foot by 3 foot? Would make a perfect display case. Do they have ones with a clear acrylic front to save on the dusting.
no front on this one but I could add one later I guess, its 34"H x 24"W The ERTL diecast trains are very detailed as you pointed out so it should look fantastic when they are all displayed
oh wow! I need one of these! about 8 foot tall and 5 ft wide! LOL
