Weirdest package delivery experience ever!?

Of all the many packages I've ever had delivered, from USPS to UPS to FedEx,...from nearly every civilized country around the world...many, many, many, many, many... I have never been met at the door by a Postman informing me that "I" owe $1.15 in postage fees to receive my package!?!? WTH??? It seems the eBay seller was able to only pay the Flat rate, but it was shipped priority or something?? I still don't quite understand, but my options were to either pay the $1.15 at the door, or decline the package due to insufficient postage?? Really??? That's CRAZY!!
I scrounged up some change to secure my package, but I'm still scratching my head as to how I am remotely involved in the post office's mistake??

I wouldn't blame the Post Office, more than likely it is the fault of the seller. They probably use prepaid Postage as I do and either their scale is off or they are trying to cut what cost shows in their listing by cutting the weight too close. They print out the postage and drop off the package at the Post Office. I don't wish that to happen to anyone I send a package to so in addition to rounding up the weight to the next ounce, I add one more ounce over that just to make sure there is no mistake and postage due at delivery. I would contact the seller and have them make sure their scale is correct. Every once in a while I take my scale in with me to the Post Office to make sure it is calibrating with theirs.

You should ask the seller to pay for the extra cost in postage or give him/her a negative review . The only times I had to pay the post person are import duties.


Well the weirdest experience I ever had was the mail person couldn't locate my address despite I used the same company and same address in the past :S. I ended up yelling at the customer service before they agree to deliver the item again without charging me for an extra delivery run.

Lol...for $1.15 I'm not going to ruin someone's rating...I rather enjoyed the weirdness of wondering just where the postman was going to keep this change at, (since USPS carriers don't handle or carry cash) ...and just to whom it would be delivered?? (Someone anxiously awaiting my $1.15 to make their till and all the world right again!?!)lol
But mostly just utter amazement of how USPS management could somehow rationalize having the recipient enter into any equation of compensating for a seller, USPS's, or any flaws in thier collection processes or procedures...I felt bad for the poor mailman who is forced to uphold such a ridiculous remedy and policy.

I guess I still don't see the flaw in the process and procedures of the USPS. What else are they to do when anyone does not pay enough to ship a package? I guess we could go back to the day when everyone would have to stand in line at the Post Office and have them weigh and collect postage at the counter. That way there never would be mistakes and postage due but that isn't going to happen. The responsibility here belongs to the sender to make sure they are paying the right amount up front. Believe it or not they have been collecting "Postage Due" as long as they have been in existence especially when people guess at how much it costs and then puts a bunch of stamps they have in their drawer on a package. There has also always been COD (Cash on Delivery) that they require cash for. In this day of technology and ease of doing so much Online and the ability of purchasing & printing postage Online from at home I think that Postage Due is happening more and more.

I am not trying to boast for the USPS they do have their flaws but for a non-profit entity they do alright in my book. My guess in this case is on the Seller not charging the right amount to you in the first place. Nobody is paying more or less here just that the USPS has to make up for what the sellers mistake was in the first place. The inconvenience ends up with you and the USPS for the sellers mistake. Just sayin.

I had this happen to me with an ebay purchase once i had to pay 41 cents at the door to get my package i just laughed and got some change for the mail lady!

I must say I am quite confused on this. To elimate some of the mystery, the seller was me. Muddy won an auction from me a few days back. This was shipped USPS flat rate envelope, so the weight restriction would be 70lbs which it was not as it was one train. That said, I paid what eBay calculated, not something I came up with on my own to charge. If there are other USPS restrictions on using a flat rate envelope that would great to know if, but I am not aware of any that would result in this. Sorry for the hassle on this one Muddy, again, I am not sure what happen.

It was a flat rate envelope. Nothing fancy. No tape other than the label. I don't get it..
