I rarely see this neat DE 10 come up anywhere and I often wondered where it came from. Was it a Limited Edition or part of a special set? Might it be a replica of a real JR engine? I really like the coloring except for the yellow wheels as black or gray would be nice. I also like the large gray vent panels on the side/front. Does anyone recognize it and can shed some light on it?

Howdy Super!
I believe this DE10 locomotive was once part of a special run of exclusive locomotives; however, I'm not sure whether it came in a set or was separate by itself as a promotional gimmick. I won't blame you-- I'd certainly like having one of those trundling on my layout.

Thanks
I don't think I have seen this set before. Is it just me or is the middle train in these Limited Release 3 Packs always the rarest one? It is a real one....hmmm...the wheels aren't yellow ![]() (09-04-2015, 05:29 PM)Super Wrote: Thanks It is not just you 90% of the time the middle train seems to be the rarity, although in this set the EF81 (bottom) is also quite unique and its paint scheme and side lettering are exclusive to this 3 pack. The picture of the real life version is just beautiful I love that picture!
For the most part I have not been looking at the 3 packs in auctions as I thought I had the trains I wanted from them. I see now I will have to inspect them more closely for this one. Thank you
As for the middle one of these 3 packs being the hardest to find, you are right, there are a few sets that the third train might be rare also. |
