The LED firebox is not a bad idea Super, I'll have to look into it see if its feasible, but I would think so.
There genuinely are flatbeds like that with the low slung design, why I'm not entirely sure, it may be due to height restrictions or something. For example in the UK having a fairly old train infrastructure (remember we had the first and a lot of it is still original victorian) we have quite a few low road bridges or tunnels. This is one reason why we don't for example have dual decker commuter trains in the UK as it is just not feasible without re-building a lot of the routes.
I've often seen models of this type of flatbed depicted with for example an eletrical generator load which can be pretty tall.
