Nice Hornby 00 Gauge Tank Engine & Wagons - Nigels - 03-16-2018

Well these things seem to come along in batches, the other day I showed you guys the little class 06 diesel shunter. Today we have a little 0-4-0 tank engine plus some wagons. These came as part of a second hand set (The marshaller) which I picked for a song off eBay recently and which arrived this morning...

The Loco is depicted in early British Rail livery for those interested in such things, this is a slightly more modern version than the Diesel having been produced in China, so probably 10 years or less old based on the box design.

Oh and just for you Super, there is a picture showing the detail on the inside of the cab. As you'll notice this is just moulded at the moment, but could be picked out with a touch of silver/metalic paint very easily if so desired Smile

I love that black tank engine especially the details inside the cab which would be perfect for a flickering (not flashing) LED bulb for the firebox. I also love the gray hopper car. In real life why would they make a flatbed with that low in the middle design for?

The LED firebox is not a bad idea Super, I'll have to look into it see if its feasible, but I would think so.

There genuinely are flatbeds like that with the low slung design, why I'm not entirely sure, it may be due to height restrictions or something. For example in the UK having a fairly old train infrastructure (remember we had the first and a lot of it is still original victorian) we have quite a few low road bridges or tunnels. This is one reason why we don't for example have dual decker commuter trains in the UK as it is just not feasible without re-building a lot of the routes.

I've often seen models of this type of flatbed depicted with for example an eletrical generator load which can be pretty tall.

The lower center in the middle is so that they can carry things that would be too large and tall for a normal flatbed. It would probably also lower the center of gravity, which would make it less likely to tip. I have a slightly longer one.

A quick update, I've found a supplier that has not only 'flashing' LED's but also some 'flickering' LED's, I've ordered a couple to have a play around with. These could be ideal to simulate a firebox, just depends what colour I would like now (Yellow/Orange/Red).

I may also source a spare loco body so that I don't have to mess up the one on that loco as I do like that one Smile
