Ahh..the Narita Express, fond memories of this one as it was the first 'unusual' train my Grandson was attracted to and wanted. There has been 2 releases of this, both have 2 speeds but no lights.

The lighting unit you have pictured was a stand alone or add on release with its own friction generator and released in 2011. When pushed forward the lights are yellow and when reversed they would be red. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10131264 I have had these and since they aren't motorized they really only can be used as a trailing car and shine red...and shine they do, the red is very bright. There intended use may have been for children to push and pull them by hand.
