You've just reminded me! In one of Leokimvideo's videos, he showed how to dissasemble the shell of a Revolution Thomas in order to paint the running board. The new engines have the running boards glued to the shell, in order to make the chassis universal. Ignore the Pez Ghost, that's just part of a Halloween layout with decorated engines. It's actually fairly difficult to pull apart, but if you have the will and patience, then go ahead. Hope I've helped.
Also, for better performance (on Plarail/TM1 track), you could put rubber tyres on the gear-like wheels.
