Hello everyone!
Sorry for the very late delay and it's quite a long time since I haven't been on in the forum..
Anyways, I just received my new and improved Trackmaster 2.0 Thomas that was included or came from the "Close Call Cliff" Set. And yes, I know about the design change and all so, I modified my Thomas by his undercarriage which is the activation tab, filed it down a little bit and gave it a test on the blue TOMY track that I own.
It works like a charm!
Special thanks to Ucwepn for the Trackmaster 2.0 Thomas Modification to work on old styled tracks.
Note: I wouldn't bother putting his white running board. Why? Because there's no way I can remove the top off away from the running board.

You've just reminded me! In one of Leokimvideo's videos, he showed how to dissasemble the shell of a Revolution Thomas in order to paint the running board. The new engines have the running boards glued to the shell, in order to make the chassis universal. In case that's the only thing stopping you, I've provided a link to the video at the appropriate timestamp:

Ignore the Pez Ghost, that's just part of a Halloween layout with decorated engines. It's actually fairly difficult to pull apart, but if you have the will and patience, then go ahead. Hope I've helped.
Also, for better performance (on Plarail/TM1 track), you could put rubber tyres on the gear-like wheels.

I recall from a source very early on (possibly someone here) that the running board is sonic plastic welded to the bodyshell and not glued.
