Thanks Nigels
Well considering how inexpensive each building is now I guess it doesn't make much sense to sell the light boxes by themselves. For example the 4 buildings I just purchased came to about $6.00usd each which includes shipping so how much would they sell just the battery/light packs for to make it worth producing more of them than the number of kits they build. If I find a use for them I would definitely purchase more kits and try to sell the kits for a couple dollars each after just to get the lights.

Maybe I'll look into the Alibaba thing, the only bit putting me off really is the darn import duty I'd probably get clobbered for. Roll on our exit from the EU then maybe we can get a free trade deal with the USA, Japan and China and I won't have to worry about import duty no more lol!!

Ok, well I'm still waiting on the shipment of lights that I ordered from AliExpress, however one of the other items I ordered did arrive this morning.

This is a lighting set for the Lego Austin Mini Cooper model that is currently available. I ordered this as I already have the car and it will finish it off nicely.

I was pleasantly surprised to see it turn up so quickly (about 8 days), it was well packed and seems to be fully functional.

Basically you get a wire loom that contains various light modules on the end that replace the headlamps, sidelights, brakes, etc... and adds interior lighting. This is all connected to a USB plug so you can plug it into a PSU of some form, maybe if I can find a small enough battery pack I can stash it in the boot (trunk for you colonials Smile) of the car...

Thats pretty cool Nigels especially having a whole harness made up completely like that. I am assuming that the USB supplies 12volts? If so I bet a 9volt battery pack with an on/off switch built in would still work if that would fit in the boot.

Oh, and I am expecting my lights I ordered to be delivered in an hour or so. If I like them I will immediately order some more.

USB is nominally 5v, up to 500mah if it is made to the ideal specification, so typically you can expect it to vary by about +/- .5v I reckon. On most PC's or whatever the biggest limitation is normally the current as some PC's for example can't provide 500mah, this can exhibit itself as say 3.5" hd's not powering up - this is why some come with Y cables so you can plug into two USB sockets to get more current Smile

The exception is probably the USB powerbanks (made to charge phones on the move etc...) as some of those can provide 2amps or more to allow for phone rapid charging. What I was thinking of was seeing if I could get hold of a small re-chargable powerbank, I know you can get them in various sizes and I wouldn't need one with 10,000mah capacity or anything Smile

Let me know what the lights are like, they should be the same as the ones I already got, but for some reason mine only shipped yesterday?!? Typical the first thing I ordered and the last thing to ship lol!!

I too am likely to order more if they turn out to be the same as I already have...

These lights are awesome, and I was extremely surprised and thrilled that they included the three L1154 button battery's in each set. I can see lots of modified coaches and buildings too. I immediately ordered 10 more. The price had gone up 50 cents each from my first order but with the battery's and Free shipping they are at a fantastic price. I don't know why I thought they were a bit smaller as I had it in my mind of a micro Lego Block size but I think I can take off about a third of the height of the block if needed but as it sits now will fit nicely inside a coach. I can see that these would be fantastic for Lego buildings. I also, after several years of searching but using the wrong terms, found mini on/off push button switches that aren't momentary but real, push once for on push again for off which will be run to under the chassis for coaches or easily in an easily accessible spot on a scenery or building piece. Thanks Nigels for bringing these to our attention.

Glad to hear you're happy with them Super, I know I like them for my Lego buildings and such, but I can still see many other uses for them. If you notice the actual part that carries the LED's has a small micro-connector, you can get wired versions of leads with the plugs on easily off eBay. So if you wanted you could always use these lights with an extension lead and put normal AAA's in a mail coach or something to light an entire train if wanted.

I can also see these used under the canopies of stations to give you lit stations (even better potentially than the oldie we've been discussing) all very easily and easy to maintain Smile

That was the first thing I noticed, Might you have an example from Ebay Nigels? I don't know what to use as a search word.

Sure I'll search them out and post it here when I find them, I already got some knocking about somewhere as i had plans to fit LED's to coaches and string them together using exactly those micro plugs/sockets and put batteries in the baggage car or something. Just never found the time to do it lol!

Just received the 4 buildings and upon looking at the light boxes that came with them there is one slight difference to the bulk ones we purchased. The ones that come with the buildings have a shorter wire which is OK for coaches I would imagine but the ones with the longer wire might work better with modified train scenery pieces such as stations.
