Motorised Coach and Animal Express - Nigels - 09-17-2016

Nice little purchase off eBay arrived this morning, comprising of a motorised Tomy coach (animal themed) and the Animal Express train. Very nice little combo, although I was only originally interested in the coach, both that and the loco run smooth as silk and the two coaches with the train are both animated with a clapping gorilla and pecking birdies Big Grin

Yeah it is actually quite nice and to be honest was not that expensive, in fact I possibly would have paid the asking price for the coach alone as that is what caught my eye as I've not seen that one before.

But in the flesh the train - well wagons - are nicer than I thought when I first saw it, not sure about the train, I'm not a fan of the bright red finish as even though it has plenty of moulded detail none of it is picked out and highlighted. Could be a candidate for a custom I think... Smile

Usually, when we say "coach" here, we mean a railway passenger carriage, not a bus. Not to mention, neither of the rolling stock for the 'Animal Express' are such "coaches". For some reason, it looks as if the battery for the bus is where the passengers would be (in the second shot).

If I remember correctly, the Donkey Kong look-alike moves its arms up and down while in motion. Is that correct?

Maybe in your country you call a coach a bus, but here in ENGLAND where ENGLISH comes from we call a COACH a COACH and an OMNIBUS a BUS they are two totally different things. So please before correcting someone get your facts right.

As for a train COACH the correct term collectively is ROLLING STOCK and they are usually referred to as CARS when discussed individually/generically which also happens to be what the ENGLISH call an AUTOMOBILE.

If you wish to distinguish individual train CARS they will refer to them as PASSENGER CARS/CARRIAGES or WAGONS depending upon their type they would never call them a COACH as a COACH is typically a single decked OMNIBUS.

Bottom line here is if you want to comment on someone's post try being constructive rather than keep criticising people, we all come from all over the world and each have different terms for different things, we don't need some polictical correctness police to keep chipping in with childish petty comments like yours.

And as for the 'Gorilla' WAGON, that does not move its arms 'up and down' when in motion it claps its hands as I already stated.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, sorry Nigels! Didn't mean to correct anyone nor start an argument. I do know about the differences in terminology, but I just thought you could've used one or both terms in order to prevent confusion of this kind.

Hi Dala,

Don't take my post as a start to an argument, if it was something like that I'd take it to PM's rather than post in public. What I was trying to highlight is just how annoying it is to have someone constantly criticise peoples posts for petty little things, we're mostly old enough to know what is a coach or a bus or whatever, we don't need anyone telling us.

Generally you often post useful information to supplement peoples posts or fill in missing bits of information and that is genuinely welcomed as it is from anyone. If you can just sort of control your OCD about terms people use you'll have no issues, you just have to bear in mind that things are labelled differently depending on the part of the world the person lives in Smile

@UCWEPN - I second Dala's post, don't ban him he's not done anything out of malice, just well maybe a bit of lack of thought that's all - no harm done Smile
