I also just learned that there is an actual process in sorting out the parts before building. It is called Knolling
I sometimes build these brand new kits without minifigures you see on eBay, not so much for the kit itself, but if i've bought something (like the Ideas Dr Who set) which has a lot of useful/unique bricks that I can see a use for either in another kit I'm gathering bricks for or for a self build idea.
It's a much cheaper way to get those rarer bricks than buying them off sellers on eBay or BrickLink, although sometimes that is the only route for some items as Lego's own 'Pick A Brick' facility on their website is pretty rubbish apart from 'normal' type bricks.
So what is this 'sorting process' then AC? It could be darn useful with some of these 'clone' kits who don't use the numbered bag idea

The Desert Outpost (minecraft) my son found it on sale at Walmart! He saved $24 on it!! Great score. He will help with the small parts and people then says let me know when it's done!!

That's kids for you these days, no stamina lol!! Unless they can press a button and it starts or it comes out of the box assembled a lot are just not interested - still that's the digital age for you

Seriously! All they want anymore is a video game or iPad. My oldest has Autism so keeping him on task is always an issue. He is better with the Junior sets. He can usually get them done before losing interest. My nephew got several lego sets for Christmas and said "why are they always in pieces!!" Too funny...gotta say I don't mind doing them myself I Love Legos!

I'm with you, if I HAVE to help the kids assemble them just because they come in pieces rather than assembled I'll always do it be-grudgingly
Seriously I wonder what will happen in the future if kids don't start using their imagination like we used to as kids when we didn't have iPads and all the other digital crap lol!

I agree!! I never had video games growing up...we had bikes, skates and sticks! We had to use our imaginations.
I have time limits on YouTube, the iPad apps and the Wii U. They get an hour after homework is done and at least an hour was spent outside! That being said the LEGO Duplo, Junior and CITY apps are great for giving my boys ideas on how to pretend. It helps a lot to give them an idea to start with and they take the story from there! My littles favorite Duplo right now is the car wash and gas station. He will spend hours taking the train through the 'warsh' as he says lol
