Collecting

Besides any dark blue, light blue, brown, or grey tracks, are there any other sorts of toys you collect or possess? Any stories behind them? How do you collect? How do you display or store them?

If there are toys that many members share an popular interest in, then maybe they can get their own thread.

Things that I have:
  • LEGO (mainly the Harry Potter, CITY, and Creator ranges)
  • Doctor Who (Character Building micro-figures, cherry-picked 5" action figures, and miscellaneous things like a few little models)
  • Nintendo, specifically Mario. (I have a shelf devoted to Nintendo and it's mainly taken up by these little figurines PopCo made.)
  • Mighty Beanz original range (I was really into these as a child and have a lot of Series 1 and the rare Bodz series you had to mail tokens from milk cartons to recieve. Also have a lot of carry cases, Trick Tracks and two race course sets. I haven't payed much attention to the relaunched 2010 series but if I see them second hand, I will get them)
  • The Simpsons (a small amount of things like figures, fast food toys, but many of the things which came with potato chips like Tazo Pickers)
  • Crazy Bones (I was really into the Things/Aliens series and I have a special magazine full of the stickers the bags contained)
  • Various cars (a small mixed bag of Matchbox, Hot Wheels, and no name die-cast cars I've had since I was little. I also have a Shell petrol station, and a few larger wooden and plastic cars. I've lost interest in these so I'm going to get rid of most of them.)
  • Happy Meal Snoopy toys (One of the few Happy Meal toys I've kept. I managed to get all of them during the first promotion and a few for the smaller second one. I hear they are quite valueable now.)
  • Robopet and Roboraptor made by Wow Wee Toys (I love these! Even though I don't use them anymore and they are not in good shape, I want to keep these)

Share away!

good idea for a thread!!

i have several different collections on the go, but they are more sidelines and something to fill the gap when trains are few and far between.

- anything disney, especially asian releases. i dont hunt them out online, but wait for them to appear in thrift
shops and the like.
- jim shore ornaments [again, disney based] they are expensive but the quality is second to none and ive
managed to amass a decent collection.
- canadian anything... maps, badges, coins, teaspoons, plush toys. my favourite country.

Great, I don't collect figurines like this but I used to play games a lot - and these are some of my favourite, you should post some pictures!

I don't really 'collect' things but I do have other interests, I was really in to motorcycles (specifically mopeds from the 70's/80's - I have x2 at the moment) then, I have a few Radio Controlled cars(x8) I occasionally buy extra ones but to be honest most of my money that I spend on RC cars is from replacing broken components! Then at the moment I have a few cars that I spend my time on, a 92' Suzuki SJ and a 84' Volvo 240, I'm welding and replacing things on the SJ I hope soon to get it back in a road worthy condition,

I am a Texan at heart so I collect Alamo stuff . Over 300 1/32 scale model soldiers and buildings , lots of artwork and books . My study is a shrine and centre piece is a modern flag flown at the Alamo which I picked up on my pilgrimage a few years ago .

There is also the matter of 100 ACW figures and scenic items with a reb slant Smile

@"Tramp" I would be happy to post pictures, and your other interests reminded me of another hobby I enjoy but is not collecting really,
I love to work on bicycles especially Panasonic 10 speeds. I restored 2 early 80's Panasonic's one for me and one for my wife.

I'd be interested in seeing your bicycles too, I've always fancied an old bike, I had an old viscount racing bike for a while, I also had one of those folding bicycles ( made under a veriaty of names) at the moment the shed has my mountain bike in ( an entry level muddy fox) and a no brand 'astra' mountain bike with a child's seat fitted to the cross bar, so I can take my son to school on it. At work our department has a couple of 'pashley' bicycles, with 3speed sturmey archer gear sets, I quite like them! Maybe when my children grow up and I have more space is like to buy a real vintage bicycle like a Rudge, BSA or even a penny farthing!!! (But I know how expensive they can be!) I can ride a unicycle so I can't imagine it being that much different.

Well, if you guys are into old bikes, you guys should see what I have. i started collecting them last year (had two, but got FIVE more for free) i have a 80s three wheeled bike that I use for barn work and hauling scrap metal from a junkyard that's nearby to home. It's in ok shape, but the brakes could use an upgrade. I also have a 60s super cycle ten speed from canadian tire made in Canada! It's in awesome shape, i tour on it at night since it has a special lamp on the front That powers up as you speed up. I also have a 60s-70s three speed super cycle bike (made in Canada) but I'm selling itSad I have two mountain bikes (a super cycle and a CCM) and a 50s (I think) Humber three speed (worth over a thousand bucks and it still has to be restored) and I can't remember the name of the last one but its old and needs to be restored. I have too many bikes.
Proud owner of Tomy/Plarail trains. Cool
