A couple of long waiting customs finished?

sorry to drag up an old thread, but... i really like the deface mod, what do people use when they replace the face? it looks really good. i'm thinking of doing a custom flying scotsman, and would like to use a similar face
Some use smokebox doors from H0/00 scale engines, while others may use a coin or any other small, flat, rounded object that's in the right diameter (depending on mod subject).
Welcome cerbera84, I used a hornby GWR king class smokebox door for my flying Scotsman tribute and many other early trackmaster and Tomy defacings as it's a good size.
thanks for your replies - i've seen your work on youtube Ucwepn, very impressive. My son keeps asking Santa to bring a trackmaster sidney, so that will be my first custom. I'm planning to use diesel - remove his face, and i will cast sidney's face from a take n play model
Looking forward to hearing about your progress and see the finished product Cerbera84.
Wouldn't a Take-N-Play face be too small for TrackMaster? If Wooden Railway is sold in your area (including Sidney), you should get that one instead since the face is larger.
Sounds good mate please post lots of pics when your done And thanks for the compliments!
sadly, i can't seem to find a wooden sidney for a good price - some sellers are asking £35 !!! the take n play face does seem a little small. will keep looking for a sidney, or for someone who has a wooden sidney and i can cast his face!
If you still won't find one, you could probably use this as a reference for his face, if not print it and cut it out:
