Well let's hope they make Ryan! It would be nice to have some great northern rail locos! ( although we already have Spencer and Emily and I suppose gorden) but it would be nice to have some tank engines too, and although I like Emily as In the simplex engine I don't really like trackmaster Emily, tender driven engines just aren't my thing!

I really like the real GNR pictured above. Now that would make a great model. In the picture of Ryan it looks as if there is a side rod for the front 3 wheels only and not the rear wheels but the real one shows none. Will be interesting to see if the movie shows the rods and whether Tomy make on of these. Wish Ryan was green & black like the real one above...would make him nicer to deface. Big Grin

Super, in the real photo above the rods are at their highest point up inside the bodywork.

Thanks Ucwepn, didn't think of that. I wish we would see more of this type of rods on a Tomy/Plarail model where they are attached to the wheels evenly and not to an axle. Seems simple for them to do unless they wouldn't be durable attached like that. I suppose if they did make a model of Ryan, his center and rear wheels would be dummies.
Super, it is possible. Ucwepn and I have proved it. The side rods won't break if designed correctly. And chances are Tomy/plarail does not want to make this as a lot of effort would need to be put in the design on the side rods to have them perfected. And with the solid side rod design, the train doesn't seem to like curves much.
Proud owner of Tomy/Plarail trains. Cool
Must have missed that. Thanks Rock
I've got a book, I've just had a look through it & there are a few small snippets on n2's so I thought I'd share,

The book is on doncaster so it mainly refers to the engines produced in and around the city of doncaster,

Awesome info Tramp, thank you. I love the #1608 Gresley built in 1921. The large piping and side rods are beautiful.
