KNDY's 鉄道ファン ADVENTURES

I wanted to share some railway adventures and cool things to see if you want to add to your plans for vacation.

My first post will be a trip to Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture. Been to thie location numerous times as the place is famous for its shrines and the mausoleum of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu but this time going to Nikko for something way different.

This one is taking the Yamabiko H5 Shinkansen to Nikko for Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura.  A great cultural park if you want to go back to the times of traditional Japan.

I was very lucky to go to Nikko on this day because the next two days, trains were canceled due to a major snowstorm.  Earlier in the day it snowed but it wasn't that bad.

While Nikko is not far from Tokyo, the weather is similar to Hokkaido due to the high elevation.  So, warm summer and cold winters with heavy snowfall.  Average temperature is 7.2 C (45F).  Back in March 15, 1984, temperatures went down as low as -18.7C (1.7F).
