Plarail New Releases 2025 onwards (non-Thomas)

I would like to see a Plarail in that 1954 version of the 5000 series (last picture) or...might there already be one that I can't remember?

Thank you Dr Chris 😊

What a cool release! I love Tokyu trains and the green color is lovely. Hopefully I can pick it up someday. Thanks for posting Chris!

Agreed! It surprises me that we have not yet seen a release of a train with this style of cab as multiple similar but not identical variants have been used by various operators throughout the years. Keikyu 600 series and Keio 1000 and 3000 series all come to mind.

Plarail have produced the Keikyu 600 - blue in 2005 & 2015, red in 2016; and the Keio 1000 - seven different colour variants in 2005, three re-issued in 2015 along with a new one, and one as recently as 2023.

All were company limited editions. The Keio 3000 has not been made.

Pictures of all the boxes are displayed in the Plarail Museum here.

I was referring to the one from 1956, originally classified as the 700 series but changed to 600 in 1966 in preparation for the introduction of the 700 series trains the next year. Keikyu later reused the 600 designation on a modern type, which is the one that got a Plarail release.

Ah, sorry, makes sense. Yes, it would be great to see some of these old EMUs in Plarail, but I don't think it's ever going to happen, sadly.  This is the original Keikyu 600, for anyone who knows less about them than SET:

So this one was not from the Plarail site itself, but on Tomica site instead.

On March 2025, we will be seeing an introduction of the Tomica-Plarail "Vehicle Block" line.

There will be 9 sets introduced for this line, but I'll focus on two sets with Plarail vehicles for now.

The first is yet another "CLASS 923 Dr. YELLOW", retails for 1,540 yen.

It is a non-powered end car, with 6 pieces (One base with wheels, one nose, and four body pieces). The build should be simple enough. The base has a hook just like normal Plarail cars, should you want to connect it to an existing Plarail train.

The other is "TOMICA PLARAIL BLOCK ENTRY SET", which includes a map/instruction, 4 vehicles and 2 Plarail cars modeled after Plarail's Red Stream train. As previously, you can hook a Plarail motor car in front if you like to. The building steps should be the same. The set cost 4,950 yen.

From my quick test I believe there is a small chance this system might be compatible with the existing Lego brick system that Lego and many thrid-parties are using. If it isn't (and it's likely that it isn't) then that would be a disappointment.

That is hilarious. It would be interesting to see how much of Tomica Plarail Block can be used with Tomy Trains cars and buildings.

I've wasted a lot of time this morning looking through press releases and so on for any statement referring to compatibility with other block systems. I have come up with nothing except some very small print that's too small to read and probably isn't relevant anyway. It seems that they're keeping very quiet on the subject. I can no longer in all conscience use twitter as a research tool, there may be something there, I don't know.

I'm crossing my fingers that these are actually compatible with Lego and similar products, it would be amazing to be able to build custom Plarail trains.
