Advice Needed: Restoring and Cleaning Vintage Tracks

Hi everyone,

I recently inherited a box of vintage blue plastic tracks from my childhood, and I'm thrilled to start using them again. However, many of the pieces are dusty, and some have minor scuffs or discoloration from years in storage.

What’s the best way to clean and restore them without damaging the plastic? Are there any particular products okta training or techniques you'd recommend? Also, does anyone have tips for dealing with slightly warped tracks to get them back into shape?

For cleaning, warm soapy water with a toothbrush for finer cleaning and a nail brush for larger sections will work wonders.

For items I have that are warped, I’ve placed them between two heavy books and left them for a while, not the most technical advice but it seems to work most of the time.

Similar to NMsTrains suggestion above, I wash all tracks I have received whether they be new or used. My method is filling my laundry tub with hot water and Dawn dish soap. I dump all the pieces in and let them soak for about 30 minutes or more, then I scrub each piece on all sides using a hand brush like THIS rinse then lay them out on a towel to dry. I have also used a large plastic Dishpan to soak them in too.

Curious: are the 'Vintage' plastic tracks the dark blue ones or the regular blue like the ones now?
