Does he have a middle wheel? If he doesn't, it may be the original 'flange' face and someone tried to paint/use marker to make the white flange black?
Has, no flange, it’s plastic, has ‘screw in’ middle wheel, I don’t think it’s a prototype

The reason I mentioned that was there looks to be an ink or paint smear here.

hmmm, now that you mention that, it could be they got a FP Thomas, and repainted the smoke box
