Could they be Tomy's answer to Mattel's Mini trains?
You mean Mattel's Push Alongs? I always thought they made them because their motorized engines couldn't be pushed by kids. Their drive wheels do not turn unless they are turned on. But Plarail doesn't have that problem. The drive wheels of their engines can always roll. Admittedly, I don't know if this is also the case with these new engines from the Plarail AEG line...
