OMG...is this real?

Yes it is.
In Japan they have this 3d screen thing (it's basically an optical illusion)

From a fellow that lived through the invention of, first, 3D Still Pictures and 3D Motion Pictures where it was impossible to see the effects without wearing big clumsy, cardboard 3D glasses, this is amazing.

That’s really cool! Like Great Gordon Fan mentions, it’s a very clever optical illusion. You can see that they trick your eye by making the screen appear farther back than it really is.

And Super…. Yeah, those cardboard glasses with the blue and red lenses that really didn’t work. Ah, remember when there was a craze on UHF stations back in the 70s-80s where they sell those glasses so you could watch a movie on TV in 3D? That also didn’t work very well. Big Grin

I remember a better version at the 84 World’s Fair (Goodness, I’m dating myself here!) and an even better version a decade or so later when IMAX theaters were a big thing.

Ah, World’s Fairs, movies with 3D glasses…. Man, I feel old! Sad

You think that's old? OK, who can remember a sheet of thin, transparent plastic that you cut to size and stuck over your black & white TV screen? The top portion of the screen was blue for the sky, the middle had a reddish tint, and the bottom was green for grass. Possibly one other person on here, I'd guess.
You must have lived in the rich part of town Dr Chris as I have never heard of such luxuries. Big Grin
Look and weep...
