Mattel Talking Engine repairs.

HI all.
I was wondering if if could get some help repairing a Talking Victor.
When I turn him on he talks great, clicks into driving mode, but the engine doesn't drive.
I have pulled him apart and tried his engine with a AA battery and it works.
My guess is that there must be a switch / circuit that is not sending the pulse to tell it to drive.
There are no broken wires.
This thread may already exsist, but I can't find it.
I hope someone can help.
Many Thanks in advance
AOF

There is usually a small switch under the wheels, I believe on this one it is in the rear portion. It is sort of a safety switch so that the train has to be flat on the track before the motor can engage. To test it the switch is the issue you can put a small wire or something metal between the switch leads or wires and see if it works. I have removed the switch completely in the past and just left the two wires connected together.

I know about the switch.
When it is fully together and on the track it makes the talk and doesn't drive.
Sorry, should have explained it better.

A small video to show you

HI Ripley802. Did you see the video on my last post? Any ideas on how to fix this.
I have another 3 in a box that are like this and I just wish I could fix it.
I would really appreciate the help.
Many Thanks
Sorry about that I completely missed TnA last post. My best guess is it may be a small resistor on the circuit board that has gone bad. I had similar issues with two TnA engines and once I replaced the component on the circuit board it started working fine. These can sort of be a pain to replace if you do not have a good soldering iron and a solder extractor.

Here is the component that was bad on the TnA engines I mentioned. You may be able as a test to put a small piece of wire or a screwdriver across the two ends to short it to test if it is bad:

Thanks Ripley802
When I do this the wheels do start to turn on train.
Should I soldier a piece of wire between them?
Thanks so much for your help

Can you see any numbers on the part? They are sometimes very hard to see but we may be able to find a replacement which would be ideal. I am not sure if the wire would cause other issues down the line.
It does

HAd a look locally and I can get a BC550

Have a look at my TnA thread over here:

I went though several hours of trial and error with these and they are very specific as far as model and number on them. I may have some I believe of this number.
