Rail king league lines toy train set

9 Replies, 9363 Views

I bought a few of the budget, toy train sets recently. These have various names on the boxes, including Rail king / League lines / classic train set, etc.
Surprisingly, for the low price, the steam locomotive, although somewhat lacking in power, runs very smoothly.
Here are a couple of photo's of the layout I am building along with a video on youtube  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUHiz5n3ols

The steam locomotive body holds 2x AA batteries, while the silver colour tank wagon is an old Playcraft Jouef HO scale model, which goes really well with the rail king products.
The only thing I would say, is that the range of plastic track is very limited, so you can't make complex layouts, or have a passing loop (unless you build it on a curve) and not many sets include points.
Here is a basic Christmas theme set currently on sale here in the UK. The trees in this set look exactly like the Tomy "Thomas" trees that were available in the UK some years ago

I like those black Esso Petroleum Tanks and the trackside Shed with Platform, did these come with the set you purchased?

That video doesn't look like your YouTube Channel P-Fan

The black colour petroleum tanks are built from a "Wills" plastic kit and the trackside shed with platform was also kitbuilt.
This youtube channel is a recent one that I started when my old computer crashed and it is currently stored, waiting repairs

Here is an overall view of the layout. The trains are like our Tomy models, in that they only run forwards, with no reverse function on the stop / go switch under the loco cab.

Very nice P-Fan. I like that Quonset hut. Have a closer look? Big Grin

Thanks, super, the Quonset hut is a beauty isn't it. I borrowed from my Plarail layout. It is just by the yellow DHL van

Thanks P-fan
I am not sure I recognize that Layout, is it one you have a video on?
That brand/type of model trains are incredible value, if you look on eBay or Amazon you can get some quite big sets complete with loco's that smoke, make sounds, have lights and a good selection of rolling stock for anything from £10 up depending on the features and size of the sets. Would be interesting to see if they could be converted to run on blue tracks Smile

Yes, this is just a compact Tomy layout, that I posted a video (of one of the do-re-mi sound trains) on my youtube channel, shortly before my computer started playing up and I put into storage pending repair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgpUbRNBcpo

This was at Mirfield exhibition in may 2018

Now I remember from that angle. I love your Layouts, such attention to detail.

Anyone interested in checking out Plarailfans's other videos, and you should, take a look here.
