E-01 is the infra-red controller, E-02 a left turn-out, and E-03 a right turnout. I guess you can control up to four of them:

They date from the Dark Blue era, as you can see.

Thanks for the info Chris, so the Controller had to be purchased separately? I have seen the left turn-out one before but didn't know there was also a right turn. I have seen only a very few of these Listed in the Japan Auctions on occasion and generally go for high amount. Those are some great pictures in your Link that shows the inner workings. I am surprised that Plarail never came up with an updated one using modern technologies, like using a phone to control the switch. It seems like it would be a neat thing to have in a modern Layout.
That's about all I know.

Certainly would be excellent to have a modern equivalent.

Hello, what's this then?

Well that certainly looks like a homemade device but I don't see whats controlling the switch.
According to some Google translation I did, it's an infra-red remote like for a TV.

thank you all for your input.
i am exhausted right now so bare with me here.

yes, based on my interacting with this piece and/or pieces...

one can interact with several pieces- in regards to this piece/pieces.

the key is the "main" remote.
that remote has 4 switches.

i am trying to research this piece. there is "word" that there is a "3-way" switch.
the one we are most familiar with. it has a manual switch.

some say this piece goes in conjunction with a "4-way" piece/ track that has/was also ended in production around the same time.

all say color is "key"!
Wow this is would really helpful to me. I thought before of making such kind of Remote controlled point but i never knew that already existed from Tomy. Even tho this looks pretty rare i hope to maybe add one of those points to my Layout Big Grin
they are really cool.
many times i have done layouts. trying to do things within those layouts.
only to be limited in some way, shape, or form.

these pieces not only eliminate that issue. but, in addition, expand that issue.
