interesting toy train

I found this interesting train in the lot I acquired a couple weeks ago.  Does anybody know anything about it.  

I don't remember the name of the toyline but there are a lot of these out there - a boxy commuter train that can go inside out to reveal a Shinkansen or even a steam engine.

Are you thinking of the Bandai Trains that are like transformers? They have some that fold out to Power Ranger characters and such. A couple years ago we go this one in a Lot purchased from Japan.

Ahh, the Hokutosei. They retired it a few years ago unfortunately. Believe it was due to raising the voltage through the Seikan Tunnel to make way for the Hokkaido Shinkansen

Any copyright or other distinguishing marks on the bottom?

Nothing on the chassis.
