Tomy Plarail C62 variations?

40 Replies, 28204 Views

So in my hunt for the C62-2 Tandem Sound variation “Silver swallow” I believe, it seems there are some others out there too.

Do any of he others have sound? Maybe they reused the bodies for some of the models possibly? Seems like some have what look to be speaker holes in the tender but have no sound?

Here is what I know of so far:

- C62 1 & C62 2 “Silver Swallow” black set
- Same as above only the Rare “Clear” version that recently came up in the auctions
- C62 (not sure on the number, maybe 18) but comes in a 3 pack with a green train and a blue/white train
- C62 3

Any others? What features? Sound, lights, etc...

In my head the only C62 with a working headlight is the C62-2 with the Silver Swallow set and the same numered one in the 3 pack with the N700 & EH200 trains. Now there are C61's with headlights. Also the only one with sound that I am aware of is also in the Silver Swallow set and located in the C62-1 dummy engine. All the C62 tenders have the holes in the bottom of the tenders that I have seen. I could be wrong about all this so I am anxious to hear from other members about what they may know.

The Galaxy Express 999 is a C62-50
And there is a C62-17 that I think came in a 3 piece set.

There is also another C62-2 included in the Kyoto Railway Museum Special Set but I am not sure if it has a light.

You are right about the C62-18 that comes in the 3 Pack with a Green EF58 & Blue & White 583. I was always attracted to this set because for some reason that Green EF58 & its Coaches color scheme grabs me for some reason but I never really wanted to pull the trigger.

Yes they are

So that gives us;;;

C62-1
C62-2 (3 releases)
C62-3
C62-17
C62-18
C62-50

This is probably the box that the C62-17 came in.

This is in the C62-18, which is also on the C62-1/2 in the silver swallow set. I would assume this is the Silver swallow symbol?

Sort of hard to tell in these images but it looks like a bird or sorts:

But something to note that in this set with the C62-18 it has Grey side rods where as in the C62-1/2 silver swallow set they are red in the drive engine and grey on the sound engine.

Yes, that is the Silver Swallow insignia and it is also on the C62-2 that comes in the Silver Swallow set and also the Kyoto Railway Museum Special Set but I don't think its on the others.. What is interesting about this version is the Drumheads on the front of the engine and on the rear of the coach. The front one looking to be a Swallow.

I picked this up in the Japan auctions. The pictures made it look better than it is. Dodgy it has some box issues which was the main reason I grabbed it. The plastic on the front is gone, and the insert is damaged. Still happy to have the box though.

Originally a 4 car formation      The box art, not the actual                         This one went for 92000 yen
box itself because it is way
too rare to find this box.
                                             (there are no clear images
of the actual box till today)

As you can see, the C 62 is very deep in Plarail and it is one of the most famous and successful line of trains until today.
