this past weekend, i spent at glenbrook vintage railway with blair, greg, lloryian, kylie and keegan.

greg picked me up on friday, along with bags of supplies and my tomix layout.
we spent the whole day travelling north, following the railway line for much of it and managing to catch one train, the northern explorer which is locally known as dora.
we made regular stops to walk around and stretch, and eventually reached our campground, which was 45mins from the nearest town.

after a late night and poor sleep [surround sound snorers, and they were never in sync!!] we got up at 5 to head to glenbrook to set up the layouts. despite the early start, we had people viewing before things were running properly.

almost right from the start, we were surrounded by the public. the organisers had placed us at the station where they were loading the trains. they cattle-yarded the people, letting in a trains worth at a time... around 350 passengers. the trains ran every half hour, so at that time we had a 5 min break to eat, use the bathroom or change things up on the layouts.

the station was one of the best spots, as we were sheltered perfectly from the sun, so despite a stunning weekend, none of us got burned or even really noticed the heat.

after the day had finished, we drove down the road a ways and went to a huge HO layout housed in a shed. the glenbrook line runs right past. they have a low table with a tomy set up on it, including the elusive "calling all engines" airplane. i tried to buy it, but was unsuccessful.
we went out for dinner together after that before heading back to the cabin. the place was gorgeous and the food was great. will have to go there again.

sunday started out much the same, and before lunch myself, kylie and lloryian left the boys and headed into the city. our main goal was to visit a skate shop, where kylie and i both had success and bought a pair each. we then went to sylvia park, one of the biggest shopping centres in the country.
we made it back in time for the last train of the day, which was perfect as i hadnt gone yet. we packed up, and were told there were 3 coreflute posters advertising the event, and if we collected them we could keep them. i got one, and a paper poster.
after that, greg and i raced the sunset, trying our best to get to a lighthouse. after all the effort, we got within view of it, only to find a locked gate. we caught the sunset anyway, and were able to get photos of the lighthouse.

we then went back to the cabin, had filled rolls for tea and hit the hay. another early start, greg and i loaded the van and hit the road. no trains this time, but again we took our time. we stopped twice in hamilton, once at a hobby shop and then at a guy greg had met a little while earlier, who has bought an old milk plant and wants to repopulate the grounds with original NZR workmans houses.

we got home around 7, and it was straight to bed for me, after i unpacked and plugged various flat devices in to charge.
