Well the great race engines are good to start with

This guy in australia has some very rare motor road and rail stuff for sale, you should check his store but his stuff is kinda expensive

Wooden thomas is the most expensive, i would go for trackmaster. Trackmaster lot on evay is a nice way to start a collection. However you have to ask the seller if thr motors actually works.

Who are your favorite characters?
Play nice & have fun!!Smile
I’ll second Tharazero1’s suggestion of the Great Race engines!

Without knowing what you already have or which characters you like, I’ll just throw this out here. I would stock up on current Plarail engines: Gordon, James, Henry, Hiro and Connor. Maybe a couple of Plarail Japanese steam locomotives like the D51-200 and C61-20. This would also be a good chance to get some rolling stock or track lots on eBay.

If I were you, I would buy used bulk lots of track, depending on how many you have. Try and spend up to $60 on a lot of track (used, never buy new track, I find it a waste of money). As for trains, I would go with a few Steam Team engines, and then a "unique" character (Diesel, Arthur, BoCo, Salty, Charlie, Spencer, etc).

Some bundles include tracks buildings rolling stock and wngines. Try to avoid auctions, people bid too high.

I saw a guy on Twitter who does snowplows on Shapeways: https://twitter.com/ElsbridgeP , I want to buy one for Plarail Henry, and modify Henry into his old shape
If its what you're into I suggest picking up the old Tomica World trains, particularly these ones:

Eurostar
Tomy Express
Virgin Trains
TGV Orange
TGV Silver
Bullet
Silver Streak
Amtrak(If AC hasn't beat you to them!)
Hitachi e653
Furano Express

These are brilliant little models and look really good on a layout. Better than the new Plarails I'd say.
Collecting without a clue since 2010
