i've been going over inventory. and i have a question about this train.
i try to organize my collection for easy access
question #1) what branch line does he belong to?
Duke doesn't run on any branch line as far as I can recall. He is the oldest member on the narrow gauge railway.
i "heard" that he was part of skarloeys branch line. is this true?
furthermore, not only was i "told" that but in addition, that he was the #8 engine on tht line. after freddie. true or false?
I thought skarloey was older than Duke because he is 150 years old and I don't think Duke is that old but I am not sure.
Duke was the number 1 of the Mid Sodor Railway, the other narrow gauge railway on Sodor with the Skarloey Railway. (Note that neither of the narrow gauge railways is or was under the control of the North Western Railway, the standard gauge one we all know) The MSR closed down due to the depletion of mines due to the need for resources during the Second World War. Falcon #3 and Stuart #4 were both sold to the Skarloey Railway soon after. Buyers thought Duke too old for their needs, and as a result, Duke was sheeted up and backed into his shed. He was then discovered in 1969 and overhauled and brought to the Skarloey Railway. Now, according to the TTTE Wikia, he is SR #8, not 1.
Skarloey's Build date: 1864
Duke's Build date: 1879
Duke is a good 15 years younger than Skarloey and Rheneas (1865/6).
Ages as of 2017: Skarloey: 153, Duke: 138.

very interesting... so with all the experts reporting... would you put duke at #1 or # 8?
mind you i do get the problem
also mind you that i'm not putting any og you or anyone on the spot. i now realize why the toy doesn't have a number. am i correct in saying this? in other words, duke doesn't have a number attached to him in ANY toy line. plarail included. yes?

This is true. Duke's never been marked with a number in the ranges or on TV, but I consider him number 8 as has been previously established
very cool. odd tht plarail doesnt have a duke version.
are you all sure this to be true?
Duke has never been marked with a number in the toy lines; neither Plarail nor Trackmaster has him numbered.
And could you clarify your last question please?
